Interviews and Book

"Your book is stunning, Jaime. Thoughful, insightful, practical and poetic at the same time, honest, brave, and, unlike any other book on shamanism, laugh out loud funny! Thank you!"  -Jeanne

Spiritual Halloween

Saturday, November 1, 2014,

7:00pm - 9:30 pm

At Spring House Center, 28th and Garfield Ave South, Minneapolis. (Map)

Halloween is a powerful, spiritual, beautiful holiday. It’s the beginning of the New Year in the European indigenous world. It is the time of deep personal transformation, of asking the large questions about your life’s purpose and your destiny. It’s the time of cleansing old wounds and spiritual toxins, of letting go of that which holds you back. It's the time of honoring and feeding the ancestors, the time of opening new channels of personal power and authenticity.

If you are looking for a beautiful, healing, mysterious shamanic experience of Halloween, you are heartily invited!

The suggested donation is $15. There's plenty of room left: just show up & pay at the door! If you truly cannot pay, just show up and pay what you can. I don't want money to be your obstacle to enjoying the spirit of the drum, or the work with the ancestors.

What happens:

Everyone drums (bring your own, or borrow ours). No drumming skill or experience is needed. Just show up. We will drum for about an hour and anyone who wants to dance can dance as freely and wildly as they need to.

Then we will move into a ceremony that honors the mysterious powers of life and death. If you want to, you'll make a small offering bundle of flowers and herbs to put on the communal altar. Then we will ceremonially nourish and heal our ancestors following ancient shamanic practices. What if you you don't know your ancestors- or what if you disdain them? All the better reason to participate in this ceremony!

The ceremony is fun and safe but also deeply mysterious. Leave logic at home tonight. You are moving into the realm of the irrational, of the mytho-poetic, of image and emotion. You can enter into the experience at your own comfort level - you don't have to believe or do anything that doesn't feel right to you. But doing ceremonies like this can be very powerful and it can work on you in ways you would never expect.  It can re-align ancient energies and help you change patterns in this life. Just be open.

Feel free to wear a costume or mask, especially one that honors the powers of nature, or honors your ancestors. You absolutely don’t have to dress up.

Feel free to bring a small offering for the spirits of nature, the spirits of mystery, and the spirits of transformation. Anything biodegradable works:  any compostable pleasurable food (not meat), flowers, herbs, seeds, candy, alcohol, an object made by you - whatever feels right to you. It doesn't have to be a lot

Feel free to bring a photo of one of your ancestors, or a drawing, or words written to them, or any object that represents them.  If you don't know anything about your ancestors, feel free to bring a piece of paper with words written on it - any words, but one suggestion is "I want to know you...." Or “I wish you well.”

And of course, you don’t have to do any of this. Just show up.

Mostly bring your love for the immensely mysterious adventure of life and death (and life and death…on and on?), this cosmic conundrum of where we go when the dark wind blows. Come with a love for this awesome earth and a love for Spirit - however you define that. And with love for those who came before us who, like us, lived hard lives of pain and joy, of the need for love and wonder, lives with bitterness, disappointment – and surprise.
